Today I learned that the theme for this year's Halloween Horror Nights is Silent Hill. While I know certain things about Silent Hill, I've never actually played any of the games, so today I decided to play Silent Hill 2, with the lights off, at the insistance of Hubs.

Highlights include:

"Ugh, what's with this perspective? Is the whole game like this?"

"So, I have to aim at something to hit it, and I can't move while I'm doing it."

Who saw Dark Knight Rises this weekend?

I did! In general, I liked it, but there were some things that really bothered me. I didn't care for the portrayal or development of Catwoman at all, but the one thing that killed me was Bane. I was so excited when I saw that the villain was going to be Bane because he was payed zero respect or justice in the last movie they had him in. His voice was like Ian McKellan doing a Patrick Stewart impersonation. Isn't Bane Cuban? They couldn't go with that? Plus, Bane is supposed to be a super genius and also his own entity. I feel like they just made him a glorified henchman AGAIN. It made me sad

I'll admit Bane's voice was reminiscent of a muffled Sean Connery but I still liked him. Tom Hardy plays Bane in an over-the-top way, but that’s what makes it effective. Unlike The Joker in the last film who largely did things just to witness the horrifying result (and prove a larger point about humanity in the process), all of Bane’s actions have a purpose. He has a passive menace to him that can be truly terrifying. Not only is he imposing physically, his whole personality is imposing.
He sounds like a man that is impassioned and yet calm. It’s off-putting just as Ledger’s Joker was, although in a very different way. It works. He’s not as good as a villain, but then again Batman and the Joker might be the greatest rivalry of all time, so the dichotomy of Batman and Bane simply has it's own place.

On another note I was slightly disappointed at the lack of the use of "venom" with the character and I agree with you Lex, they should've found someone who could do a South American accent, since we never saw Tom Hardy's mouth speak a line in the movie, a voice-over wouldn't have been to far fetched an idea.

Is there anyone here who went to see a midnight showing when it was released? Just a shot in the dark.
